- 1.Sign in and play three games, against Jake (the Bot player) or anyone in the room.
- 2.This will qualify you to play in a tournament. You must also read these instructions and agree to them.
- 3.Sign up for a tournament. Entry is free — there is no entry fee for any tournament.
- 4.A tournament is five games, and there is one every week. Tournaments are numbered so you can see where you are: Tournament X.1 through X.4 are the four tournaments for the month.
- 5.Every tournament is a field of 12. If fewer than 12 people have entered by the start, the empty seats are taken by bots so the tournament still runs — a thin week is never cancelled. If more than 12 people enter, nobody is turned away: everyone is seated, and a single bot may be added to keep the field an even number. Bots are marked as bots everywhere players are listed, so you always know who you are facing.
- 6.Note the cutoff date for entries and the start date/time for the tournament.
- 7.Be ready to sign in for the tournament 10 minutes before tournament start time.
- 8.Click on the details button to see the table of players. The seating chart is posted once everyone has arrived and the field is final — and once you are seated you are considered to have started the tournament. You will be able to see who you will play by following the normal “move one place to the right” rotation. Seat 1 is the anchor and never moves; if the field is an odd number there is a second anchor at seat 3.
- 9.At tournament start time, you and your opponent will cut for deal and begin the game. Play normally to 121 points.
- a.If you click on the “take a break” button, the timer will start and you will have 5.0 minutes to come back and resume play. At 5 minutes, if you have not returned, you will forfeit the game, losing 121 to 111 points (but see b).
- b.If you are 31 points or more behind your opponent when you forfeit or fail to return to the game, your opponent will be awarded a Skunk (121 to 90) and a 3 point win.
- c.You are allowed 1 “break” per game or two “breaks” per tournament. A break you do not return from still counts as one of them.
- d.If you do not play for 2 minutes you will forfeit the game. The same loss or skunk rules apply.
- e.If you sign out of the app while a tournament game is in progress, you forfeit the game and will be DISQUALIFIED immediately and barred from playing in a tournament for three months. You will be warned before the sign-out goes through and allowed to resume play. Losing your internet connection, closing the tab, or a crash is NOT treated this way — those fall under (d) as a 2 minute forfeit.
- f.NOTE: If you forfeit twice in a tournament, either by taking too long a break or by not making a play for longer than 2 minutes, you will be DISQUALIFIED and barred from playing in a tournament for 3 months. Signing out during a game (e), or withdrawing once the tournament has started, disqualifies you immediately — there is no second chance for these actions.
- g.You may appeal a disqualification to the administrator at:
- 10.Upon completion of the game, you will automatically move to the next player when they are done with their game, and the process continues.
- 11.When all games have finished and score cards have been checked, winners will be posted for the tournament.
- 12.You earn points in every tournament game: 2 for a win, 3 for a win by skunk, and 0 for a loss.
- 13.The player with the most points after the five games wins the tournament and is paid the prize shown for that tournament (normally $15). There is one winner every week and the prize is not shared. It is paid by John Morch out of his own pocket — it is not funded by the players, and entry is free and stays free.
- 14.Bots are there to fill the field, not to compete for money. If a bot finishes first, no prize is paid for that tournament. It does NOT pass down to the highest-placed person — beating the rest of the field but not the bot is second place, and second place pays nothing.
- 15.If two or more players finish level on points, the tournament is decided by, in order: games won; net spread (the points you scored less the points scored against you); then plus points (your total points scored). If they are still exactly level after all three, they cut for it and high card takes the prize.
- 16.The leaderboard adds your points up across the four tournaments of a month and is open to anyone from the home page. It is a record of how your month is going — the money is paid per tournament, not for the month. It resets when a month ends; past months stay on as an archive.
